Guidance and Counseling Services

Guidance and Counseling Services (code number) - Florida law (Chapter 491 --CLINICAL, COUNSELING, AND PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES) allows for psychological diagnostics and psychotherapy services outside of the Clinical Psych licensing area. VR regulations require a licensed psychologist on the VR panel to do psychological testing services, however, The Job Shoppe is allowed to do counseling services. Further, we can help with tentative DSM-V diagnostics in conjunction with Vocational Evaluation services and help you decide whether a full psychological is necessary.

Community-Based Vocational Assessment

Community-based placements are temporary placements with a partner employer. They are invaluable when needing to build tolerances or confidence. Community-Based Assessments allow for an assessment of the client’s abilities to manage the demands in a real work environment. The goal of these placements is to lead to permanent employment.

Comprehensive vocational evaluation sets an objective base that develops an individualized vocational plan. The assessment identifies motivators (interests and personality factors), aptitudes and achievements (readiness to work). These factors combine to form vocational options in terms of job names and related labor market conditions. Our assessments also incorporate medical, physical, behavioral, educational, cultural, and local job market information. We offer recommendations for further services for return to work planning. We use proprietary software to match clients' ability to search for local employers who match appropriate vocational goals. When referred for placement, our placement specialists spend considerable time with these employers to help clients become employed in the most time-effective way.

Labor Market Survey

The labor market survey identifies hiring trends of companies for specific occupations within the client’s geographical area. The labor market survey identifies necessary qualifications, responsibilities, earning potential, and anticipated openings. An objective analysis of suitability and availability is established.

Transferable Skills Analysis

Transferable Skills Analysis (TSA)

A transferable skills analysis results in a list of realistic occupational choices based on an analysis of objective information. Characteristics that are inappropriate can be filtered out. Skills related to home life, social interactions, personal responsibilities, and relationships can also be used in searching for jobs which require the skills our client possess.

Job Coaching

Job Coaching

Job Coaching is available during work to assist in monitoring, observing the client’s work skills and reinforcing appropriate strategies (body mechanics, pacing, lifting techniques) to assist in a successful transition. We also help solve problems for clients, offer behind-the-scenes support for employers in helping our clients assimilate into the culture and standards of their new employer.

This is a vocational program uniquely tailored to the needs of each client. They are instructed on all of the essential skills needed to be successful in the job search process and secure long-term employment. The program comprises the following topics: Resume development, cover letters, job search correspondence, networking, interview techniques, telephone contacts, application forms and general job search techniques.
